A 1942 Scientific Engineering Academy Award plaque presented to Carroll Clark and F. Thomas Thompson of the RKO Radio Studio Art and Miniature Department for their design and construction of a moving cloud and horizon machine. The award is plated in 24k gold with a bas-relief image of the Oscar statuette. The award reads “Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement.” The plaque affixed to the base is inscribed with the winner’s names. The award was not for a particular film but the technology developed, which need not have been developed during the award year. Carroll Clark trained as an architect before entering the film industry, where he worked as an art director. He was nominated for seven other Academy Awards. 6 1/4 by 6 by 3 1/4 inches Categories:
