A hairpiece made for Cleopatra (20th Century, 1963) and most likely for Elizabeth Taylor. The hairpiece features the royal motif of outspread falcon wings composed of golden hand-etched and painted leather feathers with gold wire spines and embellished with opalescent plastic layered beneath the feathers and jet-like teardrop beads between the feathers. This piece is constructed in a similar manner as the falcon headdress. The 36th Annual Academy Award for Best Color Costume Design was awarded to Renie, Vittorio Nino Novarese and Irene Sharaff for Cleopatra . Previously exhibited: Dutch National Museum of Antiquities Leiden, "Hollywood's Egypt," October 2012 through March 2013. Categories: Elizabeth Taylor
