Two dark brown custom-made toupees for Paul Newman for an unidentified film, possibly Until They Sail (MGM, 1957). The toupees are made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time to a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. The first has an MGM label that reads "1306-A" and a Max Factor label that reads "A7354." The second has an MGM label that reads "1306-B" and a Max Factor label that reads "A7387." The toupees were acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by the original box with a corresponding MGM wig stock number labeled "1306 AB Black Forward-Comb P. Newman," a canvas wig block, and a wig stock record card typed "#1306 2 pieces A,B blonde modern forward combed." "Paul Newman" is inscribed in pencil. Categories:
