A dark brown toupee custom made for John Wayne for an unknown MGM production. The toupee is made of human hair and hand tied one strand of hair at a time to a lace mesh with silk bands in the interior to give the appearance of a scalp. Studio wigs at the time were custom made and fitted to measure by the star's head and hairline. An MGM label reads "1259" with the original box labeled "1259 Dk. Brown 1850 J.Wayne," and a corresponding MGM wig stock record card is typed "1259 John Wayne Dark Brown 1850." The wig stock record has notes of the wig being checked out for an additional use after the original production ("10-24-63 #1815 H.Boden"), possibly for The Unsinkable Molly Brown (MGM, 1964). The wig was acquired from MGM upon the closure of its hair and wig department. Accompanied by a canvas wig block. Categories:
