A gilt metal cobra with green glass eyes from the film Cleopatra (Paramount, 1934). Worn by Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra in the climactic final scene where she ends her own life with the bite of an asp and dies sitting in her throne. The film is notable for its lavish Art Deco costumes designed by Travis Banton. Note: This piece has a repaired fracture and was later altered for a subsequent production and fitted with a new set of hammered brass wings.
