A taupe and violet silk jersey flapper dress worn by Jean Hagen in her Academy Award nominated role as Lina Lamont while attempting to sing "Would You? " in Singin' in the Rain (MGM, 1952). The dress has a drop waistband and pleated skirt, hand finishing work, and is embellished with marcasite beads, cord work, silver tone metal beads, and a diagonal ruffle. A bias label reads "1545 8456 Jean Hagen." Costume design by Walter Plunkett. The dress was later worn by a dance hall cashier in Love Me or Leave Me (MGM, 1955). Accompanied by a black and white publicity image from Love Me or Leave Me and a copy of Singin' in the Rain . Previously exhibited at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas and at The Sharon Landa Gallery in Hollywood, California, 1971.
