Aragorn, son of Arathorn, lost heir to the throne of Gondor, is first introduced in The Fellowship of the Ring (New Line Cinema, 2001) as Strider, a mysterious Ranger of the North. Principle among his articles was his elegant long sword, a simple blade with neither flourish nor adornment. Reilable and keen, much like Strider himself. This is the battle sword and weapon of choice for Aragorn, used throughout his quest with the Fellowship against the evil agents of Saruman and Sauron. The sword has an aluminum blade and painted resin handle molded from the original hero prop. In addition to standard weathering and aging skillfully applied to the weapon by the Weta Workshop armory department, this particular sword has a number of nicks visible along the edges of the blade from on-set combat. Visible along the blade is also staining from fake orc blood. Length, 46 inches PROVENANCE This sword was one of eight main character props featured heavily in The Lord of the Rings that were given away as grand prizes in the “Win the Sword of Aragorn Sweepstakes” cross promotion between Hasbro Toys and New Line Cinema to promote the release of the The Return of the King (New Line Cinema, 2003) in December 2003. Included with the sword is the original museum-quality, lockable acrylic display case and wooden shipping container from the sweepstakes and a New Line Cinema certificate of authenticity, confirming the sword’s use throughout the trilogy, which is signed and dated by Barrie Osborn
