A silk cachet first-day cover issued by the Gateway Stamp Company honoring Julius "Dr. J" Erving's accomplishment of scoring 30,000 points in his professional basketball career. The envelope features a color image of Erving taking the shot that would lead to his 30,000th point. In addition, the envelope lists Erving's career accomplishments. The envelope is postmarked from Philadelphia on April 17, 1987, the day Erving scored his 30,000th point. Erving achieved the milestone with five minutes remaining in the third quarter of the final regular season game of his NBA career.
