Prescription sunglasses, marked "Hand Crafted" on eyeglass temple, owned and worn by Roy Orbison accompanied by case, two original photographs of Orbison on stage and an original backstage pass. Originally given to bronze sculptor Jon Leitner in 1984 to execute a sculpture of Orbison. Orbison who began playing guitar at age 6 and formed his first band at age 13 achieved commercial success at 20 with "Ooby Dooby." In 1963 he began a tour in Europe with The Beatles as his opening act. By the end of the tour The Beatles were the headlining but a lifelong friendship had begun. The 70s met Orbison with mixed reactions to his music with a foray into disco, a popular duet with Linda Ronstadt and a break from touring while recovering from open heart surgery. The 1980s brought a resurgence in Orbison's career including collaboration with Emmylou Harris, for which he won a Grammy, inclusion in the "super group," the Travelling Wilbury's, a duet with Bono and induction into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Orbison's forty year career is peppered with four Grammy awards, accolades and admiration from his fellow performers. Categories:
