Volpe drawing of Frank Sinatra, inscribed “To Gertrude, Best Wishes Frank Sinatra,” most likely written to Louis Shurr’s sister, Gertrude. Nicholas Volpe, a Los Angeles artist, had on-going commissions from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for portraits of each year’s Oscar winners.
