A costume worn by John Barrymore as Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet (MGM, 1936). An ivory leather tunic with a brown handpainted abstract pattern. The center front panel and cuffs have pleated cream silk inserts with black velvet cord. The cuffs have attached gold metal ornaments. A Western Costume Co. label reads "Barrymore #2 Mercutio 10-2-25." Costume design by Adrian and Oliver Messel. This costume was additionally worn by Barrymore in Playmates (RKO, 1941) where the costume was altered to fit the more mature Barrymore. Categories:
