A gouache on illustration board image of Warner Oland as his signature character Charlie Chan. The image hung in Grauman's Chinese theatre, which commissioned the painting from artist Russell E. Roberts. Grauman's Chinese Theatre opened in 1927 amid a Hollywood fascination with all things Chinese. In 1931, the first Charlie Chan movie was released.
