Mixed Media. John Ottinger was born and raised in Southern California, where he graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He focuses on creating unusual, inspiring works using painting and sculpting. “I grew up in a family business that created mechanical Christmas characters,” he said. “This experience led me to work with plywood, vacuum-formed plastic, urethane, silicon, and bright colors of paint in my projects.” For the last seven years, Ottinger has invented and designed top-selling children’s products for the toy industry. The subject matters that attract Ottinger are unexplored new worlds, mechanical men (robots) and developing new characters that are pure, good, uplifting, and inspire creativity. Some of these characters can be found on luckyandfluffy.com. For upcoming works, visit 3coconutmonkey.com, a site dedicated to gallery work. Ottinger founded 3coconutmonkey.com with two other artists for their upcoming show themed “Robots, Skulls, and Monsters.” Ottinger's "The Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo" is a playful, interactive work celebrating Sunset Strip band Oingo Boingo.
