“Bye Bye George,” acrylic on canvas, signed and dated 2003 on the verso. Contemporary artist Georges Monfils was born in Belgium, raised in Northern France, and emigrated to the United States by his late teens. His “old world” heritage became immersed in Andy Warhol/Factory imagery and his self titled “Nouveau Pop” style was born. As a self taught painter, he learned to mix acrylic paint himself and his favorite Gauguin paintings inspire his color palette.
