An oil on canvas carnival banner depicting Jack Johnson, with the title “Boxing Booth” and signed "J. Bell." Marked "Jack Johnson World Heavyweight Champion.” Johnson, nicknamed the “Galveston Giant,” became the first African American world heavyweight boxing champion when he held the title from 1908 to 1915. Johnson is considered a boxing legend and was the first person ever to knock down former heavyweight champion James J. Jeffries in a professional boxing bout.
