A Limoges porcelain sculpture depicting the Statue of Liberty, mounted on a wooden base with a brass inscription plate that reads "'Maxim's des Mers'/ Inaugural Cruise - Croisiere Inaugurale/ Monte Carlo - New York/ May 25 - June 18/ Chastagner - Limoges - France/ d'apres Bartholdi No. 080." The limited edition sculpture was created to commemorate the inaugural cruise of the Pierre Cardin designed luxury yacht, Maxim's des Mers, which journeyed to New York harbor to celebrate the centenary of the Statue of Liberty. According to a July 3, 1986, article in the New York Times , the yacht hosted a party which was attended by Esther Williams, Michael York, and Kirk Douglas among others, and filmed for an episode of Robin Leach's iconic television series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous .
