French (Aix-en-Provence), late 18th/early 19th century. A rococo carved walnut fire-surround, chimneypiece or mantel having a scalloped and serpentine double arbalete carved top over a conforming frieze centered with carved cartouche and stylized shell and flanked by shaped panels enclosing diaper ground with gadrooned leaf, the jams similarly carved. Approximate height 56.5", width 68", depth 12". Provenance: Purchased from Foxglove Antiques & Galleries, 699 Miami Cir NE, Atlanta, GA 30324, whereby acquired by a Private Collection in Atlanta, Georgia.
