USA, c. 1928 nickle-plated metal 6½ w x 3 d x 5½ h in (17 x 8 x 14 cm)
Inspired by Wright's work in theater design, the Circus Series of fantastical creatures grew out of papier-mache props Wright created for the stage. Cast in metal beginning in 1928 they mark Wright's first foray into decorative arts. The early and important bookends are extremely rare. Both signed: [RW].Literature: Art Home in Manhattan, Yale University Art Gallery, 1983, page 59. provenance: Patrick Parrish, New York
