"Peter Beckford, Esq. and his Favorite Hounds Blameless and Brilliant"; signed in bottom right corner; measures approximately 26-1/2" x 16-1/2" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 24-1/2" x 14-1/2". Born in Scotland in 1873, Ross sailed to San Francisco as a teenager and studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. He worked in the art department of the Chronicle until 1904. He then settled in NYC where he illustrated such books as Merry Wives of Windsor, Great Expectations, and Pickwick Papers. He died there on Dec. 26, 1946.
