David Sholl gouache "Prudential View" streetscape depiction; signed "Sholl" to lower left side; stickered to back with a Main Street Gallery Nantucket Inc. label that gives the artist, title, medium, and gallery number "1511A"; framed but missing glass; measures approximately 28-3/4" x 36" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 21-1/2" x 29".David Sholl was born in Cleveland but lived in the Boston area for over twenty years. He worked mostly in oil, pastels, acrylics, and watercolor. He held a degree in Studio Art from Bucknell University where he was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Prize for Creativity, and did graduate work at the Mass. College of Art. His work has been shown throughout New England, including the Field Gallery, Marthas Vineyard, and the Centre Street Gallery on Nantucket. David Sholl was also an accomplished saxophonist and songwriter. He was a member of the Boston-based band, “Four Piece Suit.” Dave's sax can be heard on nearly two dozen CDs–his musical compositions are heard on several CDs and the HBO series, “Sex and the City.” He died in 2011 at the age of 62.
