ISAMU NOGUCHI (1904 - 1988); Elements related to Isamu Noguchi’s My Arizona, including the original magnesite base hand-crafted by Noguchi (1943), the hydrostone base made from a mold of the original base by Noguchi and Dr. Gary Zeller (1977), and an assortment of plastic and composite elements.; In 1977 Noguchi approached Dr. Zeller for assistance with his sculpture My Arizona (1943-1977, The Noguchi Museum), one element of which, the magnesite base, was in an unsatisfactory condition. Noguchi had already coated the back of the base in Fiberglas in an attempt to strengthen it. While he and Dr. Zeller were able to stabilize its condition, Noguchi chose to remove it from My Arizona and replace it. Dr. Zeller and Noguchi took a mold from the magnesite base and cast two possible alternatives, copies in hydrostone and Fiberglas. Noguchi chose the Fiberglas base and integrated it into My Arizona. He gave the original magnesite base and the hydrostone copy to Dr. Zeller.
