Cardini/Jean Hugard Coney Island contract. Dated April 25, 1935. Being a contract for Cardini’s investment in Jean Hugard’s Folly Theater at Luna Park, Coney Island for the 1935 season. One 4to sheet. Several closed tears, otherwise good. Boldly signed by Cardini, Jean Hugard, and witness Kenneth Jones. Though this contract makes clear that Cardini invested $300 in Hugard’s show in the midst of the Great Depression, ultimately the production, named “Hu Gard Mysteries,” was doomed to failure. There is no small amount of irony in the fact that the show was staged in the Folly Theater.
