Susan Berman (American, 20th century). "Improbable Gallery No. 5" - 1978, watercolor, ink, pencil, and collage on paper, apparently unsigned. Highly detailed surrealist drawing depicting an interior with vast hardwood floor over which hovers a rainbow colored wire passing through a wiring cap, the wall behind covered with vertical meandering lines and further with many rainbow colored dashes, the flanking wall with a large window with a cloudy sky beyond, the whole surrounded by a wide band of mesh texture topped by purple and pink confetti shapes. Verso of structure with label "77th Exhibition by Artists of Chicago and Vicinity, The Art Institute of Chicago, September 30th-December 3rd, 1978". Framed approximately 30.75" x 38". Sheet size approximately 22.25" x 29.25". Note: Copy of exhibition program from 1978 available upon request.
