Chinese, Ming Dynasty Longqing Period mark (1567-1572), likely later. An large octagonal porcelain lidded dragon box with handpainted underglaze blue dragons amid cloud scrolls on tondo to body and lid, the lid with raised central medallion bearing five clawed dragon amid chrysanthemum blossoms on leafy stems, with bands of leiwen meandering key to rims of base and lid. Underside with six character underglaze cobalt blue mark for Longqing imperial reign. Approximate diameter 12", height 6".
