Dayton Computing Scale Company (American, founded 1891). A horizontal barrel type computing scale, for mercantile and/or country store counter top use having cast iron with fancy brass trim with removable glass platform. Heavy cast iron base and counter weight. Glass windows on either side of the scale allows the customer to view the weight. This scale can compute prices from 4 to 60 cents at all weight graduations on the paper drum chart. Paper drum is also marked 'PATENTED SEPT 3, 1895, RE-ISSUED APR. 28, '96, PAT. JAN. 11, '96, APR. 24, '00, MAY 28, '01, JUNE 18, '01, MAY 19, '03, DEC 6, '04. Serial number on back 291919. Restored condition. Approximate height 32", width of barrel 18.75", depth 20".
