Tsuguharu Foujita (Japanese, 1886-1968). "A la Rotonde (At the Rotonde)" - 1925, etching, signed within matrix lower right "Foujita 1925 PARIS" and with four Japanese calligraphic marks, pencil signed and titled lower center margin. Charming genre scene etching depicting a bustling French cafe, with two figures at center, a man and woman, engaged in a fight, the man raising a walking stick above his head preparing to strike the woman as another man pulls the woman away from the chaos and another lies between them staring up, the fight surrounded by onlookers and gawkers both to interior of restaurant standing on tables and over fallen chairs, and through the floor-to-ceiling windows to background. Sheet size approximately 13" x 9.75", image size approximately 7.625" x 5.875". Note: Cafe de la Rotonde is located in the Montparnasse Quarter of Paris, France and was known in the early 20th century as a watering hole and safe haven for artists of the day, such as Amadeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Nina Hamnett, Diego Rivera, Federico Cantu, Nina Hamnett, and the author of the work in this lot, Tsuguharu Foujita.
