English, mid 17th century (circa 1665). Framed textile stumpwork (raised embroidery) figural panel depicting two heavenly angels in long robes under sun in upper left above two soldiers in blue helmets, one holding spear, the other dancing and approaching two female muses playing instruments (harp and mandolin) in flowing long gowns, lower section with antlered deer, birds perched on branches, rocky cliffs and plants, upper right with view of palace, insects, flowers and trees throughout. Overall with colored silk and metallic thread work throughout on off-white or cream colored silk ground. Framed approximately 15.25" x 19.5". Provenance: Hobart House (Malcolm Stearns, Jr.) , Haddam, Connecticut whereby acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia in 1979.
