English (Nottingham), 15th century. A medieval polychrome carved alabaster relief depicting the Resurrection of Christ with the large headed Jesus figure at center stepping out of the tomb flanked to either side by Roman soldiers with his proper right foot stepping on the body of a sleeping soldier. The stone retaining red and green polychrome and mounted to a later rectangular acrylic plank. Approximate height of stone 15.375", width 10.375", depth 2.125". Overall approximate height 17.75", width 12", depth 2.5". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from Richard Philp Antiquities, London, England, in a private sale on August 26, 2004.
