English or Flemish, 15th century, circa 1450. Hand carved figural ecclesiastical misericord corbel or seat relief in oak wood depicting a wife in peasant dress with cap and apron beating her husband. Both figures in profile, man with saddened facial expression, bent knees and gripping the side of a object, possibly a drape, woman with hand on man's lower back, opposite hand raised. Unmarked. Overall approximate height, width, depth . Provenance: Joanna Booth, 247 Kings Road, Chelsea, London whereby acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia in March 2005.
