Martin Lewis (American, 1881-1962), "Butter and Egg Man’s Holiday"-1926, etching and sandground, pencil signed lower right margin, recorded as an edition of 19, verso with label from The Warner Collection, Gult States Paper Corporation in Tucscaloosa, Alabama. Work depicting a couple in swimsuits standing ankle deep in the ocean along a sandy beach with people enjoying the coast (small dog in foreground), large buildings by boardwalk. Framed approximately 18.5" x 15.125". Sight size approximately 10.75" x 7.4". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia. Reference: McCarron 44. Note: This work is in the permanent collection at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The term "butter and egg man" pertains to a prosperous businessman from a small town who spends money freely while visiting large cities.
