Peter Hamburger (American, b. 1941) for George Kovacs "Crylicord" Desk Lamp, New York, designed in 1974, chrome shade joined to chrome counterbalance base by a curved section of extruded acrylic, double porcelain socket, George Kovacs Lighting Co., ht. 13 1/2 in. Note: Peter Hamburger is an industrial designer and space planner. His light sculptures are in the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art. Hamburger took three years to develop his Crylicord lighting collection, introduced by Knoll in 1974. The lamp collection featured Knoll's patented clear acrylic tubing, which functioned as a structural element while simultaneously concealing unsightly cords. Hamburger remembers: 'I wanted to change the traditional lamp shape and combine the structure and function of a light unit into a single form.' (Knoll) Estimate $300-500 A few scratches to the bottoms of the chrome base and the acrylic tube. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
