Fahua Jar, China, Ming style, bulbous form, with raised mouth, resting on a bisque foot ring, decorated with lotus lappets and flowers and foliate scrolls in raised line design, with wood cover (missing finial) and stand (damage), ht. 5 1/2 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
