Silver-inlaid Bronze Sundial, Angbu-ilgu, Korea, after 1713, semi-globular bowl form with flanged rim, inscribed with Korea's traditional divisions and subdivisions of the year and the north celestial pole reading "samsipchil-do, samsipgu-bun, sibo-cho," all inlaid in silver around the rim, a gnomon inside the bowl, mounted on a separately cast four-legged support, each leg decorated with a dragon and cloud design in relief, joined to a separately cast cross base decorated with turtle head finials, ht. 4 5/8, wd. 9 1/2 in, wt. 9.9 lb. Provenance: Purchased from an estate sale in St. Louis by the present owner. Estimate $15,000-20,000 minor discoloration on bronze and inlaid silver, minor loosening to a joinery, fine scratches to rim. otherwise in good condition.
