Queen Anne Inlaid Tiger Maple Dressing Table, Massachusetts, c. 1730-50, with molded top centering an inlaid mariner's compass, above a case of three drawers framed by double arch-moldings and a valanced skirt with turned drop pendants, on cabriole legs ending in pad feet, old refinish, old replaced Federal period brasses reading "Nothing without Labor," (imperfections), ht. 29 1/4, case wd. 29, dp. 18 in. Provenance: A handwritten letter addressed to Miss. Hazel Hoyt (Haines) Newton, dated February 2, 1908, presents this "Curly-Maple" table to her, on the occasion of her 17th birthday. In the note it is related that the table was presented to the family by Hazel's great-grandmother Mrs. Mary (Morse) Haines c. the 1850s. The letter also states "it is said that [the table] was brought from Scotland over two hundred years ago." Estimate $4,000-6,000 Glue blocks off but present, drop finials off but present. Age cracks to top, screws holding top exposed. The right front ?leg has been repaired at the hip/where it meets the apron and the pad foot has been spliced.
