Federal Shield-back Side Chair, the carving attributed to Samuel McIntire, the chair attributed to Jacob Sanderson, Salem, Massachusetts, c. 1791, the serpentine crest centering a basket of flowers issuing flowering vines with acorns, above five spindles terminating in a quarter-round carved with another basket of flowers, on overupholstered seat with serpentine front rail joining square tapering legs, ht. 38, seat ht. 18 in. Provenance: Peter Sawyer Antiques, Exeter, New Hampshire, 2008.
