Mahogany and Gilt-gesso Patent Timepiece, probably Massachusetts, c. 1810-20, with turned finial, white-painted iron dial, and painted tablets framed with ropetwist carving, the throat tablet lettered "Willard Patent," the lower tablet decorated with the "Battle of the Cyane & Levant" depicting the notable naval battle centering a spreadwing eagle clutching a Union shield lettered "Stewart," all on a gilt pendant, overall ht. 33 3/4 in. A Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Collection Estimate $800-1,200 black pigment in both glasses appears to be later. crack in pendulum box glass in upper left.
