Mahogany Veneer Inlaid Bow-front Corner Washstand, attributed to John and Thomas Seymour, Boston, c. 1795-1805, with shaped gallery, medial shelf with drawer, and shaped lower shelf all joining shaped legs, ht. 41 1/2, wd. 22 1/4 in. Provenance: Probably acquired by the collector through his friend Vernon Stoneman. Literature: Robert D. Note: A 1999 letter from Robert Mussey on behalf of the Peabody Essex Museum, which is included with this piece, indicates Mr. Mussey's desire to include this washstand in the exhibition of Seymour furniture at PEM. A Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Collection Estimate $1,000-1,500 Old refinish, the top of the arch on the backsplash has a glued break in the area of the small shelf; the front right foot has a bit of loss; the interior of the drawer space is lined with modern paper likely to tighten the drawer.
