Federal Carved Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Glazed Desk/Bookcase, possibly Rhode Island, c. 1810-15, the top section with shaped pediment joining beaded panel and reeded plinth above glazed doors opening to adjustable shelves and string-inlaid cupboard doors opening to drawers and compartments, set into the lower section of fold-down writing surface and cockbeaded drawers on shaped apron joining French feet, ht. 85, lower case wd. 40 1/2, lower case dp. 19 in. Furniture from a Salem, Massachusetts, Collection Estimate $2,000-4,000 Refinished, three cracked panes of glass, shrinkage separations in the side boards, veneer patches in skirt, bottom drawer has a slight upward bow, but it does close properly.
