Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver and Mold Identified to Arthur Cline, 1st New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, c. 1854, .31 caliber, serial number 98110 (all matching including wedge), walnut grip, silver-plated brass backstrap, engraved "Arthur Cline" on the bottom of the butt, marked on top of the barrel with two-line address, with a ball mold, modern fitted case, and family history, barrel lg. 5 in. Note: Arthur Cline enlisted in the 1st New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry on April 19, 1861. He died on May 17, 1861 at Concord, New Hampshire, before his regiment went to the front. Although there is no documentation to prove it, the pistol was then purportedly carried by his brother Albert Cline of the 5th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. On March 12, 1862 Albert died of disease in Washington, DC. It is then said to have been carried by his other brother, Benjamin Cline, who was a member of the 16th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, and who survived the war. Lot includes some family history and a letter home from Benjamin Cline. Estimate $800-1,200 Grip has a few dings and nicks, no finish left on the gun, and it functions properly. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
