Three Satirical Drawings from the Collection of Frank Crowninshield: Typist, The Disturber of the Peace of Bunkers, and Figure Holding a Flower. Unsigned, titled faintly in pencil u.c. or l.l., each stamped "Collection/F. Crowninshield," "Benjamin West Society," and "F.N.P." within an oval, Figure inscribed 'March 1927/Vanity Fair 2031B" in pencil on the reverse. Graphite on tissue paper, 9 1/2 x 7 3/4 in., matted, unframed. Condition: Creasing, including dog-eared corners, minor tears, holes and wear along the edges of the sheets. N.B. Frank Crowninshield was appointed the editor of Vanity Fair by his friend Condé Nast in 1914. Estimate $100-150 The title on the Figure Holding a Flower is very difficult to read. It might say something like "The Last of the Gallery" which might suggest an enraptured theater patron leaning on the edge of a balcony or theater box. The Benjamin West Society stamps each bear handwritten numbers in the center suggesting inventory numbers. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
