Frederic Milton Grant (American, 1886-1959) Low Tide Signed and dated "FREDERIC M. GRANT/'16" l.r., titled on a presentation plaque. Oil on canvas, 16 1/4 x 18 1/8 in. (41.0 x 46.0 cm), in a probable Newcomb Macklin/Stanford White style frame. Condition: Canvas deformation with a line of craquelure u.c., pigment fluorescence, probable retouch to matte gray pigment, surface grime. Exhibitions: 30th Annual Exhibition of American Oil Paintings and Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, November 8, 1917-January 2, 1918, no. 86. Estimate $600-800 Framed with a label from Thurber Art Galleries, Chicago, on the reverse. Framed dimensions are 24 1/2 x 26 5/8 x 1 3/8 in. The frame is constructed with the corner construction typical of Newcomb Macklin. The front of the frame is painted over. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
