Folke Ohlsson (Swedish, 1919-2003) for Dux Travertine Coffee Table, Burlingame, California, c. 1960, walnut base, with maker's stamp, ht. 16, wd. 65, dp. 29 1/2 in. Note: Born in Sweden, Ohlsson moved to the United States in 1953 were he later established Dux in San Francisco, California. During the 1950s and 1960s, Ohlsson's furniture gained popularity due to its comfort and use of quality materials. Under Ohlsson's direction, Dux collaborated with some of the most relevant furniture designers of that time including Edward Wormley and Bruno Mathsson and is often credited for having introduced 'knock down' furniture to the American market.
