Hawaiian Stone Kahuna Bowl, Kapuahikuni 'ana ana, late 18th/19th century, basalt, a carefully carved stone vessel with a slightly curved thick rim, used by Kahuna priests as a receptacle for a victims' hair or fingernail parings, in order to cast spells or recite prayers, (chip to one side), ht. 1 3/4, wd. 3 3/8 in.
