Four-piece Victorian Sterling Silver Tea and Coffee Service, London, 1874-75, John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard (Barnard & Sons Ltd. ), maker, Elkington & Co (Frederick Elkington), retailer, each with Celtic revival engraved band with raised medallions and a matte texture ground, coffeepot, teapot, creamer, and sugar bowl, coffeepot ht. 11 1/2 in., approx. 88.8 troy oz. Estimate $2,000-4,000 Barnard mark overstruck by Elkington mark to all pieces (Barnard mark shows up in full to lids of both coffee and teapot however). Teapot with small split to handle seam above lower heat stop. Each with light surface wear, few minor shallow dents, pinprick dents, and abrasions. Professional engraving removal to creamer (possibly to all pieces though surface still strong without physical evidence of removal except for creamer which shows a faint outline and inconsistent finish where removal occured).
