Probably English, 18th century, possibly 17th c. A delightful embroidered stumpwork and needlework horizontal panel finely depicting a camel, peacock, woodland creature, parrot, galloping horse and a exotic bird alternating with blooming flowers, stylized leafy plants and trees, each on a individual naturalistic grassy mound on chevron or 'hill and valley' stitched green silk ground. Panel appears to be stitched with silk and possibly metallic threads and yarn on canvas, later mounted onto a conforming wood panel. The backside mounted with copper wire for hanging. Approximate height 8.12", width 74". Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
