Whitney, Josiah (1819-1896) The Yosemite Book. New York: Julius Bien, 1868. Publisher's half leather and purple cloth with gilt stamping, illustrated with twenty-eight tipped in albumen photographs, (light damp staining to upper third of pages, occasional very light foxing on the upper edge of some photograph backing pages), 12 3/8 x 10 1/2 in. Provenance: Deaccessioned from the John Teti Rare Photography Book Collection, New Hampshire Institute of Art. Estimate $6,000-8,000 Covers have light wear, the interior has light damp staining to the upper third of the the text pages and the first image. The remainder of the images do not show evidence of staining. Images are generally clean, but there is some foxing on the backs of the image pages. Cloth hinges on the image pages are intact with no significant separations. Two maps in the back are intact and in good overall condition.
