Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (British, 1834-1890) Saint Simon Signed and dated "E Boehm 1885" in the bronze base. Bronze with a black patina, height 21 3/4 in. (55.2 cm), on a marble plinth. Condition: Uneven patination with areas of wear, crack to plinth. Provenance: The collection of Joseph Thomas Alvarez III, California. N.B. Saint Simon (1881-1908) was an undefeated British Thoroughbred racehorse and one of the most successful sires in the history of the Thoroughbred. Estimate $2,500-3,500 The patina has a matte quality to it. The is wear to the patina on the horse's right ribs and chest. There is minor dust/surface grime to some interstices and especially under and around the hooves. Height measurement taken from the top of the marble plinth to the top of the horse's right ear. Marble plinth with a crack and missing chip on the narrow end beneath the horse's head. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
