Oil on canvas, 16 1/8 x 20 1/8 in. (41.0 x 51.0 cm), framed. Condition: Varnish discoloration, surface grime. N.B. The lot is accompanied by an incomplete photocopy of the exhibition brochure, Johann Berthelsen, An American Master Painter, from the Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, Indiana, 1988. We would like to thank Lee Berthelsen, the artist's son, for his kind assistance in cataloging this lot. He noted that the inscription on the reverse is in the artist's hand and that the inclusion of the date is rare for Berthelsen. Estimate $4,000-6,000 Framed dimensions are 20 5/8 x 24 3/4 x 1 3/4 in.
