Carved Tiger Maple Scroll-top High Chest of Drawers, Connecticut, mid-18th century, the upper section with molded cornice and scrolled pediment above a case of three thumb-molded short drawers and four graduated long drawers, set into the lower section with shallow long drawer above three short drawers, the central drawer fan-carved, and shaped skirt joining cabriole legs, refinished over remnants of old red wash, replaced brasses, (imperfections), ht. with center finial 88, lower case wd. 37 1/4, lower case dp. 19 3/4 in. Provenance: Irvin Boyd, Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, 1977. Estimate $4,000-6,000 This piece is structurally in good condition. It is refinished over vestiges of old red paint, and would probably benefit from being resurfaced. The brasses are also installed too low on the drawer fronts, in our opinion. patch to thumbmolding 1 x 4 inches to one drawer in upper case, patched holes to fan-carved drawer likely from previous brass, patch to lower right side of upper case, canvas glued to cracks in scroll top likely for dust mediation, minor shrinkage cracks to both upper and one lower case sides. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
