Marini, Luigi Gaetano (1742-1815) Gli Atti e Monumenti de Fratelli Arvali Scolpiti gia' in Tavole di Marmo. Rome: Antonio Fulgoni, 1795. First edition, two large quarto volumes, illustrated with twelve folding and eleven full-page plates and numerous typographical text illustrations and text engravings, text leaf, page 707/708 in volume two torn away with loss to about 3/4 of the page; in contemporary blue paper-covered boards, 10 3/4 x 8 in. (2) Marini was prefect of the archives at the Vatican and president of the Vatican Museum and the Vatican Library. In this work, he shares transcriptions of thousands of ancient Roman inscriptions. His work was centered on the many marble slabs carved by the Arval Brethren. This college of priests was dedicated to the worship of Dea Dia, an ancient Roman goddess of fertility and growth.
